Country Platform

Spark Plug Fund

The Spark Plug Fund (SPF) of the Country Platforms Hub has been set up to support the development of country platforms by providing rapid-access grants to the right place at the right time. It is a small and internally-managed fund with a clear purpose: to finance rapid technical assistance to countries and help build country-owned, investment-oriented Country Platforms that deliver concrete programmes for national priorities.

Four of the strategic partners of the Country Platforms Hub source or supply funding to country platform development in their own right (UNDP, NDCP, GCF and GCBC). Applications for such funding are made to those partners and are administered by them independently, although data on this support is shared between the partners in the Secretariat for transparency.

The SPF is complementary to these funds. Administered by the 5 partners together, the SPF is hence designed to tackle specific challenges identified by countries and bridge targeted gaps in the country platform development process until larger funds are unlocked.

Access to the spark plug fund is based on demand by countries and allocated to needs identified through consultation between the requesting government and the Hub secretariat.
